기초 영문법 - There is / are

some / any는 '약간의', many / much는 '많은'이라는 뜻이다.

There is / are은 '~이 있다' 라는 뜻이다.

① some / any, many / much는 명사의 양이나 수를 나타내는 말

② many는 복수명사와 함께, much는 셀 수 없는 명사와 함께!

	셀 수 있는 명사	셀 수 없는 명사
some / any

	many dogs	much water

some / any는 '약간의', '조금의'라는 뜻으로 셀 수 있는 명사나 셀 수 없는 명사와 함께 쓴다.

some은 긍정문에, any는 부정문과 의문문에 쓴다.

ex) I have some apples, but I don't have any oranges.

some이 권유나 요청의 의미를 나타내는 의문문에 사용되는 경우

<권유> Would you like some cake? - 케이크 좀 드시겠습니까?

<요청> Can I have some water? - 제가 물을 좀 마실 수 있을까요? 

There is + 단수명사

1. There is + 단수 명사 / 셀 수 없는 명사

2. <There is + a, an, one + 단수 명사>

ex) There is a cat in the hat.

3. <There is + 셀 수 없는 명사>의 경우 some이나 any

ex) There is some meat on the table. - 탁자 위에 약간의 고기가 있다.

There are + 복수명사

몇 권의 책이 있다. - There are some books.

There are + 항상 복수명사

ex) There are three children.

수량을 나타내는 some, many와 함께 쓸 수 있다.

ex) There are some flowers, There are many people.

약간의 꽃들이 있다. 많은 사람들이 있다.

There is / are와 장소를 나타내는 말

There are many things in her suitcase. She can't close it.

<There is / are + 명사> 뒤에는 장소를 나타내는 말 (in '~안에'/ on '~위에'/ under'~아래에')

ex) There is a bed in the room. - 방 안에 침대가 한 개 있다.

There are some flowers in the vase. - 꽃병 속에 꽃이 몇 송이 있다.

There is a lamp on my desk. - 내 책상 위에 전등이 한 개 있다.

There is a cat under the sofa. - 소파 아래에 고양이 한 마리가 있다.
